Becky Kolsrud (b. 1984, Los Angeles) received an MFA from University of California, Los Angeles in 2012 and a BA in studio art from New York University in 2006. Becky, along with a few other notable emerging California artists, are reinventing what figurative painting can be. Her work has been shown in numerous galleries worldwide including JTT, ACME, and Karma and in museums including the Hammer Museum in LA. Making quite a splash in the contemporary art world, Becky was featured in the February issue of Vogue magazine. 

Allegorical Bather is the artist’s third collaboration with ART FOR CHANGE. From her series of allegorical nudes, Kolsrud redefines the classic subject with abstracted esoteric compositions. Her brunette hair curls around the rolling waves contoured in soft blue gradients. Inspired by modern masters such as Corot and Picasso, the evocative portrait reexamines the loaded symbolism of the subject. Shrouded by her environment, this reinterpreted allegorical nude leaves more than an odalisque’s glance to the imagination. The artist has hand-embellished 15 prints in the edition with additional details in the water stripes and hair with acrylic paint, making each a unique work.

“I’m so glad to be working with ART FOR CHANGE on global reforestation efforts for this most recent collaboration,” shared Kolsrud on the project. “Protecting the climate is one of the most significant responsibilities of modernity and I’m excited to play any role that I can.”

In support of global reforestation, ten trees will be planted for each print sale of works in this series commissioned on the occasion of EXPO CHICAGO 2023. The artist will also receive 50% of net proceeds from each sale.
